A Horn Antenna Covered with a 3D-Printed Metasurface for Gain Enhancement

A simple metasurface integrated with horn antenna exhibiting wide bandwidth, covering full Ku-band using 3D printing is presented. It consists of a 3D-printed and phase transformation surface placed at the aperture. Considering non-uniform wavefront printed horn, proposed configured by unit cells, consisting cube in centre which supported perpendicular cylindrical rods from its sides. Placement helps to improve field over aperture, resulting lower variations. Both simulated measured results show good radiation characteristics side lobe levels both E- H-planes. Additionally, there an overall increment directivity peak up 24.8 dBi improvement aperture efficiency about 35% 72% frequency range 10–18 GHz. The total weight 345.37 g, significantly light weight. Moreover, it low cost raid manufacturing solution technology.
